Speaker 1:

This episode we are talking about Leap Porter, A very tragic story of a young girl whose body to this day has not been found and her killer, Christopher Wade, who to this day is still a walking shitbag. Let's get into it.

Speaker 2:

Leap.

Speaker 1:

Charlie Porter, 19, was reported missing by her mother on June 5th and was last seen driving to 23 year old friend Christopher Wade's apartment after getting into a fight with her boyfriend. Porter and her boyfriend had spent the night at the Castle Rock Inn in Castle Rock on June 2nd. However, porter is said to have been upset that her boyfriend was moving out of state and traveled to Westminster to stay with what was described as a male friend with whom she'd gone to school. The latter was subsequently identified as Christopher Wade. In the wake of her disappearance, wade gave a television interview saying Porter left his house in the middle of the night and he hadn't seen her since, though her car never left his apartment's parking lot. According to his account, he last saw her leaving in a light colored truck. Police say Wade was always a suspect in the girl's disappearance, but that they didn't have enough evidence to arrest him.

Speaker 1:

Wade gave an interview to reporters in which he voiced a parent concern over his missing friend. Well, overall, I just want her to be safe, he said in the taped interview. I don't have very many friends, but the friends I do have I'm very loyal to, so even losing one is a heavy blow for me. I tried texting her, I've tried calling her, I've left her some messages on Facebook and haven't heard anything back from her. During the interview, the reporter noted that Wade looked on edge and he said the investigation was putting him outside his comfort zone. It's definitely intimidating, because I'm more of a person to listen and not speak, so with everyone trying to get in touch with me and asking me what happened, it's been a shock to my system, wade said.

Speaker 1:

In addition to the television interview, wade wrote several posts on Facebook raising awareness of Porter's disappearance. For instance, he posted please share this. We just want to know if she is safe. We miss her very much. The next day, wade put up another post missing Lee Porter. Please share this. Anyone, everyone. My friend Lee from Colorado has been missing since Tuesday. I'm really sad and scared. If you live around Cannon City or Denver, please let me or her family know if you've seen her. Thanks. And the third simply states please, lee, come back to us.

Speaker 1:

Porter and Wade both attended Florence High School together and had recently connected on Facebook. She graduated in 2013 and was planning a move to Denver, and Wade promised to help. Wade initially told investigators that he and Porter got into a fight when she came over to his apartment after he confronted her about having heroin. Porter's mother says she wasn't aware her daughter struggled with substance abuse. Wade said she left after that and hadn't heard from her. Wade changed his story on the day when Porter's brother and boyfriend approached him at his apartment. He took them to a nearby park where he confessed to murdering Porter and even went into detail about how he killed her. The two men had recorded the conversation the whole time and Wade was arrested that evening. Chris, give me right my eyes.

Speaker 3:

Dude, where is she? I do not know, look, okay. You need to tell us right now, dude, we, I need my sister back. Dude, I'm going to kill myself without my sister. Chris, yeah, I know, when is she. Eventually he cracked Look, you have everybody to be angry with me. I turned, grabbed her, then stepped forward and twisted her around so that her body was in between me and the knife. She then I placed my hand at her throat. I didn't start squeezing until after. She kept going.

Speaker 2:

I told her how long did you squeeze her throat Until what happened?

Speaker 3:

I thought that her muscles would relax when she went unconscious and that I could gradually move the knife away and let her go and let her regain consciousness. But that didn't happen. You think I'm just going to let you walk away and drive away. You killed my sister. I made sure that Max got at least one good shot in on his face before I grabbed him and pulled him off. Yes, I would like to construct a murder.

Speaker 2:

Okay, what happened?

Speaker 3:

The case is for the disappearance of Lee Porter.

Speaker 1:

Wade now claims Porter attacked him with a knife in his apartment and he tried to stop her but ended up choking her to death. But police don't believe his story. Porter was a petite, 98 pound woman and when asked why he didn't try to call the police or try to take the knife away from her or thrown her on his bed or run away anything short of killing her, wade claimed I will admit that that is what I should have done. One big issue with Wade's story is that even before he was arrested he confessed twice to killing her. The first time was after Porter had been missing for about a week and her brother, max Porter, came to Wade looking for answers. When Max Porter got Wade to admit to killing his sister, he punched him in the face, called 911 and forced Wade to confess to the 911 operator. I'd like to confess to a murder Wade is heard telling the operator. Wade, who is obsessed with tarot cards, confessed to Max Porter because of what the cards had shown him and because he wanted to unburden himself to Lee Porter's family. The reason that I didn't commit suicide was that Lee's spirit came to me and told me not to. Wade said After he confessed to the 911 operator. Police brought him in for questioning, during which Wade confessed to the killing a third time. Wade told detectives he had put her body in a duffel bag and placed it in a dumpster near his apartment. Authorities have searched a landfill for 40 consecutive days but have not yet found Lee Porter's body. But they did find a pillowcase containing her cell phone, wallet ID and her clothes. Wade maintains that he's telling the truth. I've told the police what I did with her body, which was to throw it in the dumpster, he said. Although authorities don't believe Wade's self-defense story, they were hesitant to take the case to jury without a body. So prosecutors offered him the plea deal of second-degree murder in exchange for giving prosecutors information about what happened to Lee Porter.

Speaker 1:

Prior to the murder, wade was majoring in criminal justice at a college near Denver because he wanted to become a police officer. He denied studying criminology to learn how to commit murder, but said his classes did help him summon the interrogation room In that I kind of knew what to expect from him. In their line of questioning Wade said, robert Wells, one of Wade's professors and mentor, believes Wade learned how to manipulate a crime scene from his class. His efforts to clean and purge the crime scene. Those are things he could have learned right there in my class. Wells said Without her remains.

Speaker 1:

Young feared that a jury wouldn't convict Wade of first-degree murder or sexually assaulting Porter. Hence his office allowed Wade to plead guilty to second-degree murder and sexual exploitation of a child in accusation based on 20-plus pornographic images found on his computer during the investigation in the Porter case. The stipulated sentence 48 years in prison. Young defended his choice in a statement that reads the defendant will receive the maximum sentence of 48 years for second-degree murder and most probably will spend the rest of his life in prison. I know the family is very frustrated with the legal system right now and I empathize with this family that has lost their 19-year-old daughter. This case has been one of our highest priority cases since June of 2014.

Speaker 4:

The family of a murder teenager is saying tonight the punishment does not fit the crime. Their daughter was murdered last summer and this man, christopher Wade, says he's the one who killed her and he took a plea deal today. Well, 7 News reporter Jennifer Kovoleski is live in Adams County and Jen, the family, is not happy with that deal.

Speaker 5:

Ann Lee Porter's family has been waiting for justice for more than a year. They wanted her killer to spend life in prison and were disappointed that he's only getting 48 years. 19-year-old Leah Porter, or Lee Porter, disappeared last summer. A week later, police arrested Christopher Wade and charged him with her murder. After he confessed to Porter's own family. Lee and Wade went to high school together and had reconnected on Facebook. She drove from Pueblo to visit him in Westminster. Wade told police he dumped her body in a dumpster. Investigators searched this brightened landfill for more than 90-40 days, but never found her body, one of the main reasons the DA says they took the plea.

Speaker 4:

And anytime you don't have a body, a homicide leaves the question as to not only what the cause of death was, but whether or not there is a death. We have no place to go and visit Lee. We don't know where she is and all we know is that she's dead.

Speaker 5:

Wade pled guilty to second-degree murder and child sex exploitation. He must serve at least 75% of his 48-year sentence before he's eligible for parole.

Speaker 1:

For two years, lee Porter's mother, renee Jackson, has not given up on finding her daughter. She is still searching for her in the Dusty Mountain trails of Central Colorado. It's devastated me. I struggle to live with this every day, and so you know I look forward to the day that I get to meet my daughter and until then, I'm going to try and find her. That concludes this episode of Human Wreckage. Cases like this are always very upsetting. No closure for the family. She still has not been found. Lee Porter was just starting her life. As many young people trying to find her way, christopher Wade took advantage of her. Instead of being a friend and offering guidance, he decided to end her life and devastate her family. What a shitbag. Thank you to everyone who follows us. We appreciate the support. Until next episode, take care of yourselves.

Speaker 2:

Thank you for watching.
